Ningbo Lishe
International Airport Ningbo
Lishe International Airport was put into use in June
1990 following project approval from the State Council
and the CPC Military Committee in 1985. In July 1992,
with approval from the State Council, the airport was
formally opened to the outside world. In 1996, the
airport was expanded, including the terminal building
and airfield. The expanded terminal building, already
put into service in October 2002, is designed to handle 3.8 million passengers per
annum or 1700 passengers per hour at peak time. The
airfield expansion work includes the extension of
runways, supporting lighting, piloting and fire fighting
works, which will be completed in 2006. In time, the
runways will reach a total length of 3200m and the
airport will become a Class 4E airport. To date, an
approximate investment of RMB 1.653 billion has been put
into the airport construction.
Ningbo Lishe
International Airport has opened more than 30 air routes
to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hongkong and ect., with
about 170 flights per week. The development goal for
Ningbo's aviation is to expand Lishe Airport into a
main-line airport according to the 4E standard. The
yearly passenger transport capacity is to be raised up
to over 3.8 million; and 1,700 passengers handling
capacity in the rush hour be realized. The annual cargo handling capacity
is 46,700 tons, MD-11, 747-SP air craft could be also
lifted up and put down. In the traffic circle within 1-3
hours, there are five large international airports,
which are Ningbo Lishe International Airport, Xiaoshan
International Airport, Hangzhou International Airport,
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai
Pudong International Airport.
Ningbo Lishe
International Airport has been officially named as an
international airport with a ceremony this week.
Meanwhile, the expansion of the airport flight zone is
also completed. This turns Ningbo into a real gateway to
the international airway business. The commencement
of Ningbo Lishe as an international airport opens a new
window into the development of Ningbo's aviation
industry. In 2006, international passenger and freight
airways will be truly opened to foreign airliners,
according to the Airport authorities.
The
Airport has worked out medium-term and long-range
development strategies to launch international airlines,
and cooperate with all domestic airliners. It also
arranges with All Nippon Airways (Japan), Asiana
Airlines (S. Korea) and Malaysian airline companies. In
the first half of 2006, Ningbo Lishe will open airlines
to Japan, S. Korea and Southeast Asia, including the
Ningbo-Kuala Lumpur-Sanya, Ningbo-Nagoya-Clark (the
Philippines) lines.
Chen Zunju, general manager
of Ningbo Lishe International Airport, 'Our first
choices for next year are Japan and S. Korea. Now we are
approaching airliners like Asiana and Korean Air, then
other Southeast Asian airliners, and after a careful
planning, we'll consider Europe, the US and the Middle
East'.
